9 Things you Must Have in your Handbag

You probably own a handbag in fact I am sure you do; and it’s probably really big and filled to the brim with “essentials”. But do we really need all that stuff, is it necessary; I believe depending on who you are there are some essentials you’ll need on hand at all times. So I am sharing the essentials in my handbag:

1. Needle and Thread: there is nothing more annoying than a button falling off your blouse or a seam ripping as you get up from your desk. The needle and thread are a life saver because you don’t want to improvise with staples like I did once....very uncomfortable!

2.  Basic hair tools: no c’mon I don’t mean a hair dryer!!! I mean some bobby pins, hair bands and a comb; because no one plans to have a bad hair day, it just sneaks up on you. You just have to be prepared at all times to tackle the wild mane!

3. Make up bag:

a little bag with lip gloss/lipbalm, a compact mirror, some primer, lipstick.. not too much make up; just enough to keep things in check.
  4. A tampon or a pad:

monthly’s are usually right on time for some and for others it’s a surprise. A visit to the bathroom and SURPRISE!!!!!!! Yikes talk about harsh. That tampon will really get you out of a bind because toilet tissue is such a terrible substitute.
5. Breath mints or gum:  I don’t have to explain this! Garlicky breath is the worst'

     6.  Tissues/wet wipes: things are always spilling, pouring or crumbling.. and then you think “how handy that I have some tissues!” Sometimes my hands just feel gross and I need to wash them, but wait where’s the washroom? I have wet wipes yay!

7. Cash: Need I say more? Just enough to get you out of  pickle.

8. Some form of Identification: I know a number of buildings where the management insists on seeing identification before letting you in. In case of any unfortunate (God forbid) or fortunate incident you’ll need your I.D.

 9. A Notebook and a pen: you never know when inspiration will strike! sometimes you are thrown into an impromptu meeting and you'll need to jot down some important points...a notebook is very useful.

That’s what is essential in my handbag, the rest is just….well just stuff. I hope you’ve enjoyed this and feel free to comment and tell us what essentials you have in your bag or what strange things are in there.

Feeding Your Hair

It's Diva's month!!! Yay I'm so excited and I just can't hide it.  So somewhere in the Bible is a verse that says a woman's hair is her glory. It is therefore only fair that we look after our glory...right? So this is a list of foods that will give your hair a great glow.

1) Your hair needs ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS and unfortunately the body can't make these on it's own. Foods that contain these fatty acids include; flax seeds, fish and avocado.

2) You'll need to increase on the collagen with vitamin c; this surrounds the hair strands and as we age collagen breaks down and the hair gets very weak. To up vitamin c in your body eat more citrus fruits.

3) Improve Keratin by consuming more leafy vegetables. Vitamin E also aids the body in its ability to manufacture Keratin. Foods high in Vitamin E include sunflower seeds, almonds, spinach and olives.

4) Your hair really needs Biotin; Biotin is a vitamin B that promotes hair growth and if there is a Biotin deficiency the hair becomes brittle hair. Boost this with eggs, peanuts, cheese and avocado.

5) Beer!!! Okay, beer in moderation as well as bananas, oats and raisins contain the mineral silica which is thought to improve thickness. Other foods include cucumber, mango and celery.

6) Your hair needs iron. Iron deficiency leads to hair loss and lean red meat is a great source of iron. Other sources include egg yolks, turkey and dried beans.

So start feeding your hair today and look forward to thick and shiny hair.

The Bride Who Embraces Nature

Today, we welcome the first writer that’s not part of the 4 Girls. Luisa is a young, aspiring PR and Media Consultant with an interest in fashion, entertainment and everything lady-like. Her first article is on the modern bride that would like to achieve a natural look.

The wedding is a day mainly for two people moving on from one stage in life and probably sharing their joy with those they love. This is the day a bride is expected to go all out to look amazingly different from the usual. However, people often forget that too much of anything can ruin you. Leave alone the tones of makeup that has already been put on the bride, the accessories you wear in your hair could actually make you effortlessly beautiful on your day. One of the easiest and cost effective ways to do this is by embracing nature; accessorizing with some beautiful flowers of your choice to match your hairstyle. It may sound last century but this is a trend that many brides have pulled off with just ordinary flowers, after all beauty lies in the hands of the beholder!

Contrary to popular belief, flowers as hair accessories are not just for the summer and fancy outdoor activities like trips and boho brides, they can be made formal for any function depending on how you chose to wear them. There is a floral accessory and hairstyle combo to suit all kinds of brides and wedding styles from rustic to glam, vintage to modern and everything in between. However, one should consider what flowers will be used for their bouquet and centerpieces so that it does not However, wearing fresh flowers feels extra special but you should change the look after the long day because they may start to look a little wilted towards the end of the night.

Tips on how to pull off this look:
  • Flowers make a beautiful addition to a wide variety of ‘hair up’ styles.
  • If you are skeptical about the look, you could try fluffy peonies or ‘dinner plate dahlias’ or any big flower for a statement with one single, big, bold bloom.
  • If you are looking for a fancy/playful look, delicate flowers woven into an everyday braid or fishtail braid will help u pull this off.
  • Think about the amount and weight of the flowers you want to use as it’s important that you’re comfortable on the day too.
  • Consider that most bridal flowers do not compliment veils.

Conquer the Trend: Cropped Tops

We love fashion here at 4 Girls for Girls; but we also know that sometimes trends can be daunting. That’s why we came up with our Conquering the Trend series – to help you (and us) embrace some of these hot fashion trends that seem out of reach but that are really easy to wear.

Here we go... Let’s conquer the cropped top!

First up we have the easiest way to do the cropped top and a personal favorite; Maxi skirts & cropped tops. This is a real easy look that optimizes the balance of a little top with the full coverage of a maxi skirt. It’s a casual look but that’s surprisingly grown up and ever so effortless!

Next, we see the Jeans & Cropped top look. This is a slightly more daring look as the little top is being paired with full-on skinny jeans! It’s a look that can be both casual and dressy depending on how you wear it. We love it with sky-high heels so it’s perfect for a night out! For a more modest version add a jacket, long loose sweater, or blazer to offer a little cover up while still remaining chic.

Dressed up Crop is our modest yet glamorous take on the crop. The idea here is to keep the look as minimal and fuss-free as possible. In line with the Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication mantra go for monochromes, bold-one piece accessories, and just a hint of crop for the top so there’s minimal visible skin. This is a look we can all pull off and one we can easily carry into more formal settings

Lastly, we have the sexed-up crop. This is a look for the bolder ones amongst us. Here we see just how hot the cropped top can be. Paired with little skirts – there’s maximum skin on show. If you have the body and more importantly – self confidence – to pull this off please do it for us all! If not, opt for the toned version of the sexy crop and go for animal print pants that show off your lower body and a more cropped top. Heels, however, are a must!

Would you dare to crop? Let us know in the comments section below (or on facebook) & feel free to send us your outfit pics we’d love to feature you on our Street Style Page!
